Description
Summary:Grupo Galpão, with forty years of experience, is one of the most important theater companies in Brazil. In 2020 and 2021, with the COVID-19 pandemic, Galpão had to reinvent itself and face a universe that would only be imaginable in a science fiction film: making theater virtually. In these two years in which more than 650,000 people died in Brazil, the theater suffered a brutal blackout resulting from the pandemic and also from the cultural policies of the federal government, Galpão made five virtual works, from theater transmitted by streaming, to radio drama, through various audiovisual productions. In this context, the theater-film Partida de vólei à sombra de um vulcão was released, with dramaturgy by Sílvia Gomez and direction by Vianna and Clarisse Campolina. The play is about a woman who decides to leave her country to see a group of people playing volleyball under the shadow of an erupting volcano, a real case that took place in Iceland. The work creates a monstrous hybrid, a concept from the field of Science Fiction, by juxtaposing the languages of theater and cinema in a dystopian environment that taste as the end of the world.
