Description
Summary:The INTAROS H2020 project defined a set of online questionnaires for surveying in situ observing systems in the Arctic, their data collections as well as remote sensing products and Community Based Monitoring (CBM) data. INTAROS conducted a survey among INTAROS partners and a limited number of external parties using a commercial tool, Google Forms. While the chosen tool made it easy to generate the online survey, several shortcomings were found. This included, among others, limited options for validating user input, lacking support for geographic locations and storage of responses in a flat file without versioning. The “Marine data in the Arctic” spin-off project builds on and extends the INTAROS questionnaires to provide a more flexible solution that also aggregates the collected information and presents it using various kinds of plots. With additional support from NERSC basic funding, we have developed an open source survey application that can form the backbone of an up to date inventory of Arctic in situ observing systems and data collections. This report describes selected aspects of the new survey application – ARCMAP – and outlines potential enhancements to further improve its functionality and ease of use. NERSC Technical Report no. 403
