SYNONYMS: finschi, keiensis, maximus, schoedei, sorongensis. COMMENTS: This species was further described by Schlegel and Müller, in Temminck, Verh. Nat. Gesch. Nederland. Overz. Bezitt., Zool., Mammalia, p. 131, 143[1845], pl. 20, 22, 23(1841]. Considered a subspecies of ursinus by Haltenorth (1958); but see Kirsch and Calaby (1977:17) and Groves (1982d).
