Based on specimens from Vietnam, two new species, E. kuznetsovi and E. orlovi, were separated from E. longirostris, but taxonomic status of Chinese specimens has not yet been reevaluated. Monotypic. Distribution. C & S China (Gansu, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou, Hubei, Hunan, Guangxi,Jiangxi, and Fujian). Descriptive notes. Head—body 90-145 mm, tail 11-25 mm, hindfoot 14-23 mm. Body of the Long-nosed Mole is dark gray to black, sometimes with slight brownish tinge. Tail is sparsely haired, except toward tip where it is covered with white hairs. Rostrum is long and narrow. Habitat. Mesic mossy habitat in alpine birch forests at elevations of 1800-2900 m. Food and Feeding. No information. Breeding. No information. Activity patterns. The Long-nosed Mole is fossorial.
