Summary:Sphaerophoria loewi Zetterstedt, 1843 Schiner (1862) published records from Lower Austria (Vöslau) under its synonym Melithreptus formosus Egger, 1859. He stated that Johann Georg Egger had observed this species specifically on Butomus umbellatus (L.). Franz (1989) published records from Lower Austria and Upper Austria. We have not seen any recently collected specimen.
