Summary: | Lamnidae While recorded close to the shore in other areas, we do not consider Carcharodon carcharias (Linnaeus, 1758) a coastal fish at Madeira (recorded from the open sea). * Isurus oxyrinchus Rafinesque-Schmaltz, 1810 —Shortfin mako Lamna nasus Bonnaterre, 1788 —Porbeagle Erroneously noted as common by Maul (1949), due to a typographical error: a remark originally meant for Isurus oxyrhynchus (pers. comm. of G. Maul to M. Biscoito). The presence of this species at Madeira is doubtful.
