Description
Summary:4. Pegomya circumpolaris Ackland & Griffiths, 1983 (Figs 15, 24‒27, 66, 67) Pegomya ( Phoraea ) circumpolaris Ackland & Griffiths in Griffiths, 1983: 229, figs 316, 318, 323. Pegomya circumpolaris Ackland & Griffiths; Ackland 1989: 228, figs 46‒51; Michelsen 2006b: 111. Description. Size . Wing length up to 5.5mm. Male. Distinguished from the very similar P. f u r va by a few rather subtle differences: Mid and hind femora on extreme basal parts distinctly yellow. Hind femur on basal third with a row of fine setulae standing out from the surrounding ground setulae. Hind tibia with apical av seta longer than submedian av seta. Left side of pregenital sclerite with a glossy area devoid of dusting. Terminalia (Figs 15, 24‒27) differ most significantly by larger sternite V with stronger lateral setae, surstylus broader in lateral view, and pregonite differently shaped on distal part. Female. Difficult to separate from the female of P. f ur v a , but it seems that females with lower half of frontal vitta extensively orange yellow and apical av seta on hind tibia strong and at least as long as submedian av seta may be safely referred to the present species. Oviscapt (Figs 66, 67) very short, considerably shorter than combined length of tergites III‒V, in other respects very similar to that of P. fulgens and P. transgressa . Material examined.
