Summary:Genus Philomedes Lilljeborg, 1853 This genus is represented by 12 species in the study area: Philomedes assimilis Brady, 1907, P. orbicularis Brady, 1907, P. charcoti Daday, 1908, P. rotunda Skogsberg, 1920, P. eugeniae Skogsberg, 1920, P. c u bi t u m Kornicker, 1975, P. minys Kornicker, 1975, P. lofthousae Kornicker, 1975, P. ramus Kornicker, 1975, P. subantarcticus Kornicker, 1975, P. heptathrix Kornicker, 1975 and P. tetrathrix Kornicker, 1975. P. fortax Kornicker, 1994, P. pseudolofthousae Kornicker, 1994, P. p t y x Kornicker, 1994, P. sphinx Kornicker, 1994, P. thorax Kornicker, 1994 are all described from SE- Australia and have not been encountered in the Southern Ocean at present. P. assimilis, P. orbicularis, P. charcoti, P. heptathrix, P. rotunda and P. tetrathrix were found in our material.
