Description
Summary:Pennella oxyporhamphi Sebastian, 1966 Not valid. Found on the halfbeak, Oxyporhamphus sp. (now placed in the flyingfish family Exocoetidae; Dasilao et al. 1997), Indian Ocean. The original description is from one apparent adult, and 2 immature parasites. It is brief and the figures are not detailed enough to warrant separation of this species from another small species apparently found on flyingfish in the Indian Ocean, P. longicauda. Sebastian (1966) stated that P. oxyporhamphi closely resembled P. longicauda, but considered it a separate species based on its only slightly different overall structure. Pennella oxyporhamphi has not been reported since the original record. Probable synonym of P. longicauda. Published as part of Hogans, W. E., 2017, Review of Pennella Oken, 1816 (Copepoda: Pennellidae) with a description of Pennella benzi sp. nov., a parasite of Escolar, Lepidocybium flavobrunneum (Pisces) in the northwest Atlantic Ocean, pp. 1-38 in Zootaxa 4244 (1) on page 26, DOI:10.11646/zootaxa.4244.1.1, http://zenodo.org/record/400400
