Summary:Lepidura variegata Dasch, 1974 Lepidura variegata Dasch, 1974. 18, 26, 476 (Original description, keyed, comparative illustration of metasoma); Lanfranco, 1974. 203 (Listed); Lanfranco, 1980. 79 (Listed). Diagnosis: Body mostly reddish brown. Antenna, central portion of supra-antennal area, around ocelli, gena and anterior and lateral stripes on mesoscutum, dark brown. Remainder of legs light green. Metasoma darker on petiole and T2. Gena wide, 2.50–3.00 as wide as lateral ocellus diameter. Hypopygium strongly scletorized, thus dark. Propodeum without areola but with subpentagonal area delimited by complete lateral longitudinal and posterior transverse carina and incomplete anterior transverse and median longitudinal carina (Fig. 1). Comments: This is the darkest species of the genus. Type material: Holotype female (CNC, examined). Type locality: CHILE: Región de Los Lagos: Caremalpu.
