Illustrations: Anderson & Heemstra, 2012, fig. 29; Bullock & Smith, 1991, pl. I, fig. C; Longley & Hildebrand, 1940, fig. 10. D: X or XI, 13 to 16 (usually X, 15; rarely with XI spines). A: III, 7 to 9 (usually 8). P: 15 to 19 (usually 16 or 17). C: 15 (8+ 7). V: 26 (10 + 16). S: 2. GR: 36 to 43, usually 38 to 41 (10 to 13 + 26 to 31). LL: 42 to 50 (usually 43 to 48). CP: 22 to 27 (usually 23 to 26). Distribution: western North Atlantic: Massachusetts to the Straits of Florida, from the Gulf of Mexico (off Florida, Louisiana, and Texas), from the Caribbean (off Colombia and Venezuela), and from the Atlantic coast of South America (off Venezuela, Suriname, and French Guiana) (Anderson & Heemstra, 2012: 111–112).
