Benthic; depth: surface (nightlight; Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California), 18–402 m (59–1,319 ft) (min.: Lea 1997; max.: Personal communication: Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History Fish Collection, Los Angeles, California). All adults have been taken in waters greater than 40 m (132 ft) deep (Lea 1980).
