Summary:* Benthosema pterotum (Alcock, 1890). To 5.5 cm (2.2 in) SL. Indo-Pacific (Nakabo in Nakabo 2002); western Pacific Ocean north to central Japan (Nakabo in Nakabo 2002). While adults have not been collected within our range, larvae identified as this species have been taken as far north as Isla de Cedros, central Baja California (Moser et al. 1994). Mesopelagic; depth: 10–300 m (33–984 ft) (Fricke et al. 2019).
