Barkley Sound (48°56’N, 125°23’W), Vancouver Island (Gavin Hanke, pers. comm. to M.L.) and Washington (Dinnel and Rogers 1986) to Gulf of California (Robertson and Allen 2002); Chiapas, Mexico (González-Acosta et al. 2018); also reported off northern Peru (Chirichigno and Vélez 1998). Benthic; depth: intertidal to 463 m (1,519 ft) (min.: Carlisle et al. 1960; max.: DFO). Also seen as Symphurus atricaudus .
