Marina del Rey, southern California (Lea and Rosenblatt 2000) to Puerto Pizarro, Peru (Chirichigno and Vélez 1998). Benthic; depth: intertidal to 5 m (17 ft) (min.: Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California; max.: Robertson and Allen 2002). Primarily marine but does enter freshwater (Argulo et al. 2020). Also, recently as Gobionellus sagittula (Günther, 1862) and Gobionellus longicaudus (Jenkins & Evermann, 1889).
