Description
Summary:Sebastes aleutianus (Jordan & Evermann, 1898). Rougheye Rockfish. To 74 cm (29.1 in) FL (Conrath 2017); 76.8 cm (30.2 in) TL based on conversion factors provided by James Orr. North Pacific Ocean from at least the eastern Aleutian Islands off Unalaska Island (Orr and Hawkins 2008), to the eastern Bering Sea at Pribilof Canyon at 59°18’°N, 177°41’W (Personal communication: University of Washington, Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture Fish Collection, Seattle, Washington), to northern California (Keller et al. 2016). Benthic: depth: 45 to at least 765 m (148–2,509 ft) (min.: Orr and Hawkins 2008; max.: Personal communication: University of Washington, Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture Fish Collection, Seattle, Washington). A previous maximum size of 96.5 cm (38 in) TL, as well as geographic and depth ranges, were based on specimens identified before the distinction between S. aleutianus and S. melanostictus was recognized and therefore these parameters are probably not well known.
