Summary: | Chuneola paradoxa Woltereck, 1909 Southwest Atlantic: 1090269, 8/572, [54°46’S 24°58’W], 889 m; 1242697, 6/356, [56.242°S 58.583°W], 3678– 4136 m. Southeast Pacific: 1090268, 5/280, [67°19’S 74°52’W], 2577 m; 1090271, 10/793, [64°16’S 82°36’W], 3294 m; 1090272, 11/947, [67°24’S 90°26’W], 2690 m. Remarks: A relatively more common and widespread species than the previous one, although there are no previous records from the Atlantic Ocean. In the Indian Ocean it is known from the central part to the Antarctic Continent (Vinogradov 1962). It seems to be more common and widespread in the Pacific Ocean and Zeidler and De Broyer (2009) record it from the Pacific Sector of the Southern Ocean. It seems to be a deep-water species inhabiting meso- and bathypelagic depths (Vinogradov et al. 1982 /96). The above records confirm its occurrence in the Antarctic Zone of the Southeast Pacific Sector and the Southwest Atlantic record is the first for that sector and the Atlantic Ocean. Published as part of Zeidler, Wolfgang, 2019, New and additional records of hyperiidean amphipods of the infraorder Physosomata (Crustacea: Amphipoda: Hyperiidea) from the Antarctic Zone of the Southern Ocean, pp. 510-520 in Zootaxa 4576 (3) on page 511, DOI:10.11646/zootaxa.4576.3.5, http://zenodo.org/record/3715770 |
