Description
Summary:Climate change is a global environmental problem which has been receiving intense attention both at domestic and international levels. Climate change or global warming is an increase in global average temperatures that has a negative effect on ecosystems across the world and leads to global warming, ice cap melting, changes in precipitation, and increase in ocean temperature leading to sea level rise etc. The over exploitation of natural resources and increasing environmental pollution are the root causes for the climatic changes and it has already triggered the harmful effects of climate change on people’s lives. However, greediness to become stronger nation and to receive more economic gains makes the countries to adopt economic friendly policies rather than environmental friendly policies. Hence to mitigate the adverse impact of climate change and to achieve balance between the economic interest and the environmental interest, international initiatives were introduced and the countries realised that only through sustainable development policies one can protect the interest of the nation. In this backdrop, this paper analyses the international initiatives to prevent climate change and to adopt sustainable development.
