Seasonally abundant in New Guinea waters (Beehler & Pratt 2016) but just three records around Biak: 23 October 1997, ten with a small flock of Thalasseus bergii and Sternula albifrons near Woniki off the south-east coast (SvB); late August 2007, one off the south coast (Bengtsson 2007); 6 August 2015, two off Rani (N.
