Summary: | ABSTRACT Cases of A(H5N1) avian flu virus among dairy cattle in the US have been reported within the past two months, raising concerns about potential spillover into other species . In response, we have developed two nucleic acid-based assays to identify the presence of A(H5N1). These assays target ultra-conserved elements within the hemagglutinin and matrix protein encoding genes. Through in silico testing and verification using a single field sample isolated from an infected red fox, we provide initial evidence of the effectiveness of our approach. Ongoing efforts in further validation and method optimization are underway. Our intention is to disseminate these methodologies within the scientific community, fostering collaborative efforts towards early detection and effective management of A(H5N1) outbreaks.
