Description
Summary:Stichasteridae Perrier 1885: 885; 1885 b: 15; Sladen 1889: 430; Mortensen 1927: 133; Mah & Foltz 2011b: 652 (reinstated) Neomorphasteridae Fisher 1923: 250; 1928: 56 (key); 1930: 211; Spencer & Wright 1966: U 77. Comments Although Neomorphaster margaritaceus is a familiar North Atlantic species, this is the first taxonomic accounting of Neomorphaster since it has been returned to the Stichasteridae following molecular phylogenetic revisions (Mah & Foltz 2011b). This differs from Ringvold & Anderson (2016) which cited occurrence from the Faroe Islands. Clark & Downey (1992) cited it as a member of Fisher’s Neomorphasteridae, a name which has since been synonymized following reinstatement of the Stichasteridae (Mah & Foltz 2011b). The eastern Atlantic Stichastrella is also a member of the Stichasteridae present in the northern hemisphere.
