Description
Summary:The process of Christianization of the indigenous peoples of the Far North-East of Russia in the 17th - early 19th centuries took place in the conditions of severe northern nature, among firmly rooted pagan ideas about the universe. Orthodox missionaries were forced to seek and find extraordinary solutions for the successful spread of Christian doctrine. The construction of Orthodox churches and chapels contributed to this process. A significant role in the spread of the Orthodox faith in the Far North-East was played by the activities of the Yakut Spassky Monastery during this period.
