Summary:This work is devoted to the problem of the etymology of the word Aar, which appears in the name of the Head of the pantheon of deities of the mythology of the Sakha people. The relevance lies in the fact that the name is an epithet of Aar and does not have an unambiguous translation into Russian, due to the fact that it is still not subject to specific study. The aim of the work is to find a logical interpretation of the word / epithet Aar. By analyzing the works and research of famous scientists such as V. F. Troshchansky, V. L. Seroshevsky, A. E. Kulakovsky, P. A. Oyunsky, G. U. Ergis, I. V. Pukhov, A. I. Gogolev, L. A. Afanasyev and other works devoted to the study of beliefs, mythology of the Yakuts, as well as by comparing their arguments, conclusions regarding the Chapter The pantheon of the upper deities Yuryung Aar Toyon (Uryҥ Aar Toyon) The Yakut mythology reveals the data that became the basis of our work. Based on the studied material, a version is put forward: the name-epithet Aar goes back to the ancient word for the sun.
