Summary: | The transport sector is the second largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Given this context, this JUSTNORTH Economic Brief considers how Arctic countries have taken different paths towards energy transition in line with European climate change goals. In particular, we consider private transport electrification and the opening of new railway networks in the region. Special attention has been given to justice issues that have emerged during the research process, as well as to the impact of these initiatives on the Sustainable Development Goals and on ecosystem services. These considerations must be carefully balanced with complementary sustainable development goals. |
