Unlike most of d'Anville's maps, which are typically void of decoration, this map features an ornate cartouche, designed by his brother, Hubert Francois Bourguignon d'Anville. Hubert d'Anville signed his work as Sr. Gravelot to the right and below the cartouche. The image is of a nude woman holding a bow and quiver of arrows. Two children hold a net and a fish. Between the woman and children a beaver and an alligator appear to snarl at each other.
