Description
Summary:Map of North America from the southern portion of James Bay to Florida. It shows the colonies, cities, Native American land, and topological and geographical features. The boundaries of the Treaty of 1763 between France and England are hand colored. It includes an inset map showing Hudson and Baffin Bay. Unlike most of d'Anville's maps, which are typically void of decoration, this map features an ornate cartouche, designed by his brother, Hubert Francois Bourguignon d'Anville. Hubert d'Anville signed his work as Sr. Gravelot to the right and below the cartouche. The image is of a nude woman holding a bow and quiver of arrows. Two children hold a net and a fish. Between the woman and children a beaver and an alligator appear to snarl at each other.
