Description
Summary:20 x 15 cm. black and white photographic print. View of the unveiling of the Pioneer Square Totem Pole, looking southwest. This crowd waits for the dedication of the totem pole in Pioneer Square. The pole was taken from a Tlingit village in Alaska in 1899. After being damaged by fire in 1938, a duplicate pole replaced this landmark. In this photo, the pole is surrounded by stands for a fireworks display, and is in front of the Northern Pacific Railroad ticket office. The photo comes from an album given to Homer Hill by Seattle City Engineer R.H. [Reginald Heber] Thomson; most album images depict the installation of a water supply system for Seattle.
