Stone, navigator of the NC-4, navy seaplane which was the first airplane to cross the Atlantic ocean, dropped dead yeaterday of a heart Stone, 49, former navy pilot, was commander of the coast guard air patrol station here. He died at Rockwell field, historic army airport on North Island in San Diego bay, where he had gone for a plane consultation this morning with manufacturing officials. Stone was on the only one of the famous NC squadrons commanded by Capt. John Towert, until recently commander of the naval air station here, crossing from Newfoundland to Lisbon. Portugal.
