Description
Summary:Scientists Lost Their Equipment In The Yukon. SCIENTISTS LOSE THEIR EQUIPMENT IN THE YUKON Fairbanks, Alaska, June 24.—UP)— J. B. Mertie, Jr., Washington, D. C, who led a geological party bound for the Porcupine river country above the Arctic circle, arrived here today after losing his scientific equipment on the steamer Klondike which sank near Whitehorse, Y. T. Mertie said he lacked appropriations for purchase of new equipment and came here to await instructions from Washington, D. C. Three Canadian geological parties, bound for Carmack and Selkirk areas also lost their equipment in the same wreck which occurred when the Klondike struck a rock in the Teslin river, a tributary of the Yukon north of Whitehorse recently.
