Alaskan Planning To Plant Oysters KETCHIKAN, Alaska, March 16. —(/P)— Barney Smith, Alaska oyster farmer, said yesterday he is awaiting a shipment of 1,000,000 seed oysters from Japan for planting in nearby waters. "Despite the claim of eastern scientists that oysters don't grow in Alaskan waters, I have been very successful," he said. Smith said he referred to the request of Alaska oyster culturists to the Department of Interior to obtain rights to oyster beds. He said the request had been held up because a scientist, to whom the matter was referred, said oysters coult not be grojvn in Alaska. Smith, said he had been robbed of oysters valued at $1,000.
