Anchorage, Alaska, Jan. 2.—(/P)— Alaskans laughed at "these spendthrift movie people," when Director Norman Dawn, here to film an Alaskan drama, advertised $250 for the first live wolverine received, and equally handsome payment for four more wolverine and ten live otter. A prime wolverine pelt is worth anywhere from $2 to $15 and, even though scarce, otter skins only bring $10 to $20. It looked to the trappers like Santa Claus' alias was Norman But after three months' strenuous labors, Alaska trappers concede Director Dawn knows the cash value of a live wolverine and that otter oughter come higher, too. Not one live otter has been offered Dawn and only three of the five needed wolverine have been received. Had to Go Get It. An Alaska railroad employe named Moorehead, living at Girdwood, drew the $250 prize for the first wolverine after he had telegraphed Dawn: "If you want this thing you better come and get it." Wolverine are nastily vicious beasts at best but it took Moorehead and a companion two hours to subdue the animal and get him caged in a 55- gallon barrel with a galvanized tub, pierced with air holes, for a cover. Last week two more wolverine came in, one caught by a Mr. Drew at Cantwell and one sent in from Rainy pass by a man named Wadell. Dawn plans to wait a little longer, and if no more are forthcoming, to take his three wild animal actors back to Universal City for studio shots.
