(/P)—Alaska's campaign to feed itself was given impetus today when Winifield Ervln, president of the chamber of commerce, returned from a 10-day vacation in which he discovered a rich farming valley in the Susitna and Ventna river country, which he'said is the equal if not better than the Maiamiskn farm colony. The valley, about 50 wiles square, is west of the Matanuska mid toward the base of Mount McKinley National Park. Its glacier ffd streams abound with fish and it has a vast region of heavy growth timber, rich gold placer deposits and much coal tributary to The valley has a climate equal if not superior to the. Matanuska's and the weather is much milder than at Anchorage. Ervin said. It often rains there when it snows here, and the elevation of the entire area is not over 500 feet above sea level.
