Summary:Death Claims Alaskan Hero. DEATH CLAIMS ALASKAN HERO CLEVELAND, March 16. (/P)--Balto. Alaskan husky, of Nome, Alaska, died of old age yesterday at a dog hospital here. He was the lead dog on the last lap of the famous dash into Nome in 1925, when anti-toxin was carried by dog sled into the city to prevent the spread of diphtheria. With Old Sye, now the last survivor of the team, Balto had spent his last days at the Brookside zoo. His hide will be mounted and placed in a museum.
