ALASKANS EATING CANADIAN MEATS Alaska is turning to British Columbia and other parts of Canada for her supplies of meat, vegetables and fruits, since the longshoremen's strike has cut off supplies from Seattle and other Coast points. This is the statement of the Rev. Russell F. Pederson, pastor of the Presbyterian church of Wrangell, Alaska, who is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin A. Pederson, E1107 Nora. "Alaskans are eating Canadian meats, vegetables and fruits," said the Rev. Mr. Pederson. "I found the prices of the Canadian supplies as cheap in Skagway as those from the United States. In Skagway, the butcher shops will be closed for a week at a time because of the lack of meat supplies. "The strike will mean disaster to the trolling and gill netting of salmon this season unless it is settled soon. This will affect the salmon cannery business as well as throw many out of employment. It is also affecting the crab and shrimp crops."
