Summary:Alaskan City Is Hungry: Ice Pack, Locked To Shore, May Delay Food Ship. ALASKAN CITY IS HUNGRY Ice Pack, Locked to Shore, May Delay Food Ship. POINT BARROW, Alaska, Aug. 16. (/P)—The Arctic ice pack to the shore today, with the westerly gale increasing, and arrival of the sailing schooner G. S. Holmes was awaited to bring needed supplies. Ice conditions are unusual, but the food shortage is not considered alarming. The wind is expected to shift any time. Captain John Bachman, "boy skipper," is bringing the Homes here. Leon S. Vincent, government schoolteacher, said he had used the last coffee yesterday, and one of the wealthiest natives declared he had "tasted no milk or sugar for two months."
