Description
Summary:Glacier Priest Holds Ice Bowl Game In North. Glacier Priest Holds Ice Bowl Game in North KING ISLAND, Alaska.—(U.P.)— Eskimos who have never seen a football game planned today to try to play one in an "ice bowl." The temperature hovered around zero. The New Year's Day game was the idea of Father Bernard Hubbard, "glacier priest" of Santa Clara university, who is spending the winter on this bleak spot in the Bering sea studying native languages, habits and customs. Members of Father Hubbard's expedition are Ken Chisholm and Ed Levin, former football stars at Santa Clara and Stanford. They tried to teach the natives, who play a form of soccer with a seal bladder ball, how to play football. The island's population—less than 100 —liked the idea.
