Description
Summary:Cradle Of Race Found On Kokiak. CRADLE OF RACE SAN DIEGO, Cal., Aug. 16. (/P)— Secrets of the mysterious interior of Kodiak island, clues on the origin of the American Indian, meteorological information which may have a tremendous bearing on the forecasting of weather in North America, are a few results of the navy's third aerial survey expedition to Alaska. It came to a close when the U. S. S. Gannet secured at the naval air station pier here tonight. Working on the theory that the American Indian is of Asiatic origin and emigrated to North America via the Kodiak island region, Dr. Ales Hrdlicka, anthropologist for the Smithsonian institution, is spending his second season at Kodiak. No one on the island will enter the interior, both on account of its rugged nature and because of their fear of the Kodiak bears, so the party took Dr. Hrdlicka on several flights over the interior, with a view to "spotting" prehistoric remains from th» air. . It is his theory, members of the party say; that Kodiak, being the first fertile spot on the way over from Siberia, would be a natural place for them to have stopped.
