Description
Summary:Alaska Explorers Ready For Wilds. ALASKA EXPLORERS READY FOR WILDS SAN FRONCISCO, Jan. 22— (US)—Gold—a walking glacier— great herds of caribou. These diverse phenomena have inspired an Alaskan exploration venture, headed by Bayne Beau-champ, youthful Berkeley explorer, which will debark from Vancouver, B. C. next June 1. Beauchamp said the expedition will consist of 15 men interested in science, photography, and adventure. The plans include exploration of the abandoned Chilkoot Pass, through which miners swarmed to the gold fields; shooting the dangerous White Horse rapids into te far Klondyke; placer mining for gold, and exploration of the Columbia glacier. The last, requested by Dr. Francis Matthes of the U. S. Geological Survey, is to determine whether the glacier is advancing over a heavy forest or receding. Beauchamp said he had arranged with Joe Crosson, famed Alaskan pilot, for planes in which to obtain aerial photographs of Mt. McKinley and active volcanoes.
