Summary:Cannery Crews Fight Forest Fire On Kodiak. Cannery Crews Fight Forest Fire on Kodiak JUNEAU, Alaska, Saturday, June 13.— OP—Kodiak Island cannery crews joined residents today in fishing forest fires which threatened canneries on fifteen-mile fronts on both sides of Halibut Bay. A government radio operator, in a message to the Alaska Game Commissin, said the fire spread rapidly outside the boundaries of the national forest, driving wild game headlong before it. The Kodiak Island fires and numerous blazes now under control in Southeastern Alaska, were attribrted to the hot weather which has gripped Alaska the last several days. Heavy melting of snows caused several rivers and streams to run bank high.
