Summary:Eskimos Go Modern: Alaska Natives Have Tonsils Removed And Wear Eyeglasses. ESKIMOS GO MODERN Alaska Natives Have Tonsils Removed and Wear Eyeglasses. OAKLAND, Cal., Nov. 17. (AP)— Alaskan Eskimos are going in for such things as tonsils and eyeglasses officers of the coast guard cutter Northland reported here today on arrival of the craft from a six months' cruise of the continental tip. Dr. O. E. Bingman, the Northland's physician, said he had removed 160 sets of tonsils from igloo dwellers. Eyeglasses, the physician said, were becoming quite popular, even during the long winter night. He attributed their vogue to vanity in many cases.
