Description
Summary:Smallpox Rife In Alaska: Strict Quarantine Measures Adopted In Qutlying Villages. SMALLPOX RIFE IN ALASKA Strict Quarantine Measures Adopted In Outlying Villages. NOME, Alaska, Dec. 3. (/P) -- Strict quarantine measures have been adopted at Kotzebue, about 150 miles north of here, where telegraphic messages today reported nearly 100 cases of smallpox. At Deering, across Kotzebue sound from the stricken city, dog teams are stopped and all amil and goods coming from Kotzebue are fumigated. Forty-six cases are reported at Unalakleet, 150 miles southeast of Nome. Drs. Sutherland and O'Hara are awaiting favorable weather for an attempt to fly to the affected areas in a plane piloted by Noil Wien. The plane has been delayed a week by storms.
