ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Aug. 20. (/P) —Frank Dorbandt, famed arctic flyer, who lifted his plane into the air here last night after giving bystanders the enigmatic statement, "You'll not see me again," landed his plane 50 miles northeast of here and remained there until noon today, Pilot Murrell Sassen reported tonight on his arrival here. Dorbrandt was the central figure in several dramatic airplane flights of the north, when he rushed serums and antitoxins to Indians and Eskimos stricken with various diseases, and took injured white men to hospitals. He landed Father Bernard Hubbard, the "glacier priest," inside the smoking volcano of Aniakchak, and was one of the leaders in airplane searches for lost aviators and sailors. He had fallen into trouble lately, being charged by the federal government with smuggling furs into the United States, and in Seattle he failed to appear August 16 to answer to a filiation suit of Marjorie Seller, pretty 19-year-old girl, who charged the flyer was the father of her 17-month- old child, Frances Patricia. The case was continued until September 12. Dorbandt pioneered aviation in the territory, and was a leader in the long search for Ben Eielson. He went to the rescue of the icebound ship Karise in 1930, and had flown serum to epidemic sufferers at Bristol bay and Point Barrow. Dorbandt had been detained here during the last several days by the customs inspector in connection with the smuggling charges.
