Description
Summary:Explore Alaskan Glaciers By Air. EXPLORE ALASKAN GLACIERS BY AIR WASHINGTON.—Successful completion of survey flights over unexplored peaks and glaciers of the American northwest is reported telegraphically by Bradford Washburn of Cambridge, Mass., leader of the National Geographic society's Yukon expedition. Plying the entire length of Hubbard glacier, which has proved nearly twice as long as supposed, around Mount Logan, over to Mount St. Elias and Mount Lucania, all over 17,000 feet high, Mr. Washburn and his pilot obtained a comprehensive network of oblique photographs over a mass of unmapped country near the Alaska-Canada border. Remaining survey work of the expedition will be on the ground. For this a novel method is being used of having a six-dog team, hitched to a rope, pull men and instruments over the glaciers.
