Summary:Eielson Seekers Crack Up: One Plane Wrecked, One Damaged In Alaskan Take-Off. EIELSON SEEKERS CRACK UP One Plane Wrecked, One Damaged In Alaskan Take-Off. NOME, Alaska, Dec. 6. —Pilot Frank Dorbandt's plane cracked up and the plane piloted by Joe Crosson was slightly damaged when the aviators attempted to take off from Teller, Alaska, today for North Cape, Siberia, to search for Carl Ben Eielson and his mechanic, Earl Borland, missing since November 9 when they attempted' to fly to North Cape, where the fur trading ship Nanuk is locked in the ice. The flyers came to grief when they tried to take off from the rough, snow-drifted field with heavy loads of gasoline. There was no wind to aid them. Crosson's plane is being repaired and will attempt a flight as soon as possible from the snow-covered ice field at Grantley harbor, which is being prepared.
