Summary:Alaska Flyer Shows Nerve: Forced Down Thrice By Storms In Trip From Nome With Mail. ALASKA FLYER SHOWS NERVE Forced Down Thrice by Storms in Trip From Nome With Mail. FAIRBANKS, Alaska, Dec. 1. (/P)—After being forced down three times in storms, Noel Wien, Fairbanks aviator, landed here tonight in a Stinson-Detroiter plane from Nome with three passengers and Christmas mail for the states. The temperature was 25 below zero. The aviator, who flew to Nome last week with Thanksgiving greetings, left that city Tuesday on the 600-mile return flight. Encountering heavy winds, he landed at Unalakleet for the night. After leaving Unalakeet, Wien ran into more bad weather and made only eight miles in two hours. He stopped at Kaltag and continued on to Nulato, from where he hopped to Fairbanks this afternoon. The landing on the Fairbanks field was made in virtual darkness.
