Summary:Alaska American Legion Most Active: Legion Posts Stepping To The Front -- Business Is Bad In North. Legion Posts Stepping to the Front -- Business Is Bad in North. "The Alaskan posts of the American Legion are the most active I have come in contact with," said Charles S. Albert, member of the Washington state executive commit tee of the lesion, who returned yesterday from a 12-day trip through the north country. Mr. Albert was accompanied by his vrlfe, Surah Truax Albert, and their daughter, Prlscllla. "On arriving in Alaska I was pleased to find that the lesion posts were stepping right to the front and taking charge of many public entertainments and meetings," siad Colonel Albert. "We were in Alaska on the Fourth of July and in about 16 of the northern cities where legion posts are to be found, they had arranged and taken complete charge of the celebrations. "The majority of the posts in Alaska have a membership ranging from 20 to 35 members. Juneau has a legion membership of about 165 members and large posts are located at Nome and Sitka. Alaska can rightfully be called 100 percent American Legion." Business Depression. "After traveling for 10 days from one Alaska city to another and talking with many business men I found our northern friends to be suffering from severe business depression," continued Colonel Albert. "This has been caused by the price of gold dropping, the lack of money in Canada and a halt in the copper industry. Also the country has suffered to a certain extend from labor troubles. Alaska boasts of having about 82 canneries. Only 27 of these canneries are operation, on part time. "Alaskans are very much anti-Japanese, but the condition is not actue there and very little discussion is to be heard on the matter."
