Summary:6 Feared Dead In Alaska Slide: Rescuers Rush To Mine Operated By Seattleite. 6 FEARED DEAD IN ALASKA SLIDE Rescuers Rush to Mine Operated by Seattleite SEWARD, Alaska, May 11. — (AP)—Rescue crews rushed toward the isolated Moose Pass region north of here tonight to aid in search for six miners reported buried in an avalanche of snow and dirt. Meager information on the slide reached here today, but identity of the missing men was not included. First reports said the six men, employed by Horace C. Cooper of Seattle on a placer gold mining project, were killed by a slide two miles long, a mile wide and twenty-five feet deep. The reports said Cooper escaped. Mrs. Cooper, in Seattle, said her husband normally used a crew of eleven at the project, on Lynx Creek, sixty-seven miles from Seward. She said the miners included men from Washington State, Oregon, California and Norway. Cooper left Seattle last month to reopen the mine after a winter shutdown.
