Description
Summary:Bear Gives Him Personal Touch. BEAR GIVES HIM PERSONAL TOUCH. KETCHIKAN, Alaska, Aug. 28. (/P) —Harry Lantz, a taxidermist, went to sleep while out looking for brown bear and one of them bit him. Lantz, a member of the party aboard General W. W. Atterbury's yacht, the Armenia, was treated by a physician here on the boat's arrival yesterday. The encounter occurred, he said, on a gravel bar in Peril strait. Wanting to see the famed brown bear, he said, he went ashore and dozed off after a walk. He was awakened when a cub bear jumped over his legs and he saw a large brown bear coming toward him. He fired at her, he said, wounding her, but she bit his hand badly in passing. Later he reported the animal was found dead nearby.
