ALASKANS WIN SLOGAN PRIZES Winning Lines for Canned Salmon SalesCopped by Northerners Announcement of the winning entries in the recent slogan contest sponsored by the canned salmon industry was made by Arthur I. Ellsworth, secretary of the industry advertising committee. First prize of fifty dollars in cash was won by Mrs. Clara M. Tobin of Ketchikan. This prize was awarded for the best slogan for canned salmon, in ten words or less, submitted in the contest, which was open to all residents of Alaska, and to all employees in the canned salmon industry. Helmi A. Bach of Douglas took the second prize money of $25 for his entry in the contest. Third prize of $10 went to Dorothy Kulper of Cordova. Fourth prize was won by Edith Dunn Vivian of Seattle, an employee of Skinner & Eddy Corporation. This prize was five dollars. Five additional prizes of $2 each were also awarded in this contest. [ Winners of the fifth to ninth prizes were B. Poole of Ketchikan, Mrs. Chris Olson of Petersburg, Mrs. F. C. Sherrod of Sitka, Harriet Rossiter of Ketchikan, and Mrs. Bessie Brown, also of Ketchikan. Judges in the contest, in which several hundred slogans were submitted, were Starr Calvert of San Juan Fishing Co., representing the Association of Pacific Fisheries; Leo Krielesheimer of Kodiak Fisheries, representing the Northwest Salmon Canners Association; and Robert B. Lewis, representing the advertising agency for the canned salmon industry.
