Coast Guard Saves 78 In Alaska Fire Through the heroic work of the crew of the Coast Guard cutter Tallapoosa of the Bering Sea patrol, seventy-eight children were rescued from the flame-swept Native Baptist Orphanage on Woody Island, Kodiak, Alaska, according to word received yesterday at Coast Guard headquarters here. The fire occurred Thursday. The Tallapoosa reported that the main orphanage building was destroyed, but that guardsmen had saved the power house and water storage house. The ship was nearby when the flames broke out. Capt. H. R. Searle is commander of the Bering Sea patrol.
